Course Overview

This 5-day training provides participants with the technical skills and methodologies required to prepare, manage, and report Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventories in line with international standards. The course covers IPCC guidelines, data collection, emission factor application, sectoral inventory compilation, and reporting for transparency and compliance. Course Objectives

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

Module 1: Introduction to GHG Inventories

  • Overview of climate change reporting frameworks (UNFCCC, Paris Agreement).

  • Principles of transparency, accuracy, completeness, comparability, consistency.

  • Case Study: National GHG inventory preparation processes.

Module 2: Data Collection & Management

  • Identifying activity data sources for key sectors (energy, AFOLU, waste, IPPU).

  • Tools and databases for GHG data collection.

  • Practical Exercise: Developing a GHG data collection template.

Module 3: Applying Emission Factors & IPCC Methodologies

  • Types and sources of emission factors.

  • Tiered approaches (Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3).

  • Practical Exercise: Calculating emissions for selected sectors.

Module 4: Inventory Compilation & Quality Assurance

  • Organizing data into sectoral inventories.

  • Ensuring consistency, uncertainty analysis, and QA/QC procedures.

  • Workshop: Compiling a mini cross-sector GHG inventory.

Module 5: Reporting & Disclosure of GHG Inventories

  • Structure and format of national and corporate inventory reports.

  • Tools for online submission and transparency frameworks.

  • Final Exercise: Preparing and presenting a GHG inventory report.

Course Administration Details

Methodology

These instructor-led training sessions are delivered using a blended learning approach and include presentations, guided practical exercises, web-based tutorials, and group work. Our facilitators are seasoned industry experts with years of experience as professionals and trainers in these fields. All facilitation and course materials are offered in English. Participants should be reasonably proficient in the language.

Accreditation

Upon successful completion of this training, participants will be issued an Indepth Research Institute (IRES) certificate certified by the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA).

Training Venue

The training will be held at IRES Training Centre. The course fee covers the course tuition, training materials, two break refreshments, and lunch. All participants will additionally cater to their travel expenses, visa application, insurance, and other personal expenses.
