Introduction
This three-module course will survey the range of qualitative research methods and methodologies that can be applied to program evaluations. The course will begin with an overview of the foundations of qualitative inquiry and their purposes in evaluation. Then, participations will work through the practical aspects of developing evaluation questions, framing instruments, data analysis, and reporting. Topics to include qualitative methods of observation, interview, document analysis, and qualitative methodologies of case study, action research, and ethnography.

- Participants will learn about research versus evaluation, how research methods and methodologies fit into evaluation, and the relationships between axiology, ontology, epistemology, and methodology.
Course Outline
Module 1: Foundations
- Participants will learn about research versus evaluation, how research methods and methodologies fit into evaluation, and the relationships between axiology, ontology, epistemology, and methodology. This module will also overview the difference between method and methodology and will overview the goals and purposes of qualitative methods and types of questions that can be answered with qualitative data.
Module 2: Applying Qualitative methods in practice
- Participants will work through the practical aspects of developing evaluation questions, framing instruments, analyzing data, and reporting with qualitative methods including observation, interview, document analysis, and qualitative survey data.
Module 3: Applying Qualitative methodologies in practice
- Participants will work through the practical aspects of developing evaluation questions, framing instruments, analyzing data, and reporting with qualitative methodologies including case study, action research, and ethnography.

METHODOLOGY
The instructor-led trainings are delivered using a blended learning approach and comprise presentations, guided sessions of practical exercise, web-based tutorials, and group work. Our facilitators are seasoned industry experts with years of experience, working as professionals and trainers in these fields. All facilitation and course materials will be offered in English. The participants should be reasonably proficient in English.
ACCREDITATION
Upon successful completion of this training, participants will be issued an Indepth Research Institute (IRES) certificate certified by the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA).
TRAINING VENUE
The training will be held at IRES Training Centre. The course fee covers the course tuition, training materials, two break refreshments, and lunch. All participants will additionally cater to their travel expenses, visa application, insurance, and other personal expenses.
