INTRODUCTION

The livestock sector has a great need for highly educated farm successors, advisors and managers who have an affinity with the agricultural sector. There has been rapid global expansion of production and consumption of animal products which is expected to continue to grow. While traditional livestock systems contribute to the livelihoods of 70% of the world's rural poor, increasingly the emerging large-scale operations with sophisticated technology and international trade cater for the rapidly growing markets for meat, milk and eggs. This course is ideal for participants who are seeking a career in the industries that support domestic animals but also allows them to specialize in Dairy, Beef Cattle, Swine, Sheep, and Companion Animals. Upon completion of this course participants will have a vast knowledge basis of not only animal production (behavior, nutrition, reproduction, genetics, physiology, health), but also will have looked into the business of animal production.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Participants of the course will update and strengthen their knowledge, insight and skills on:

  • Technical skills (hands-on) and the theoretical background of livestock management procedures;
  • Delivery of services to practitioners engaged in livestock management and for those actively working in production of livestock,
  • Caring for the health of any type of animal and understand the scope of services offered by animal care services, including in veterinary practices;
  • The role of proteins, vitamins and minerals in animal diets;
  • Animal breeding programs using genetic theory, practical applications to daily husbandry practice, and management of animal breeding programs;
  • Foundational knowledge of animal anatomy and physiology as a basis to understanding the care and management of animals;
  • Appropriate procedures to manage grazing animals.

Course Administration Details:

METHODOLOGY

The instructor-led trainings are delivered using a blended learning approach and comprise presentations, guided sessions of practical exercise, web-based tutorials, and group work. Our facilitators are seasoned industry experts with years of experience, working as professionals and trainers in these fields. All facilitation and course materials will be offered in English. The participants should be reasonably proficient in English.

ACCREDITATION

Upon successful completion of this training, participants will be issued an Indepth Research Institute (IRES) certificate certified by the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA).

TRAINING VENUE

The training will be held at IRES Training Centre. The course fee covers the course tuition, training materials, two break refreshments, and lunch. All participants will additionally cater to their travel expenses, visa application, insurance, and other personal expenses.
