INTRODUCTION
A lot of Gender Based atrocities happen in times of conflict. Women, men, boys and girls face sexual related violence during and after war. It is importance for investigations to be conducted to ensure accountability and healing among the victims of Conflict Related Gender Based Violence. Ensuring that the experience of survivors of sexual violence is fully captured is the first step towards gender-sensitive accountability and protection responses. Information is an essential pre-requisite for accountability for sexual and gender-based violence in conflict, hence the need for investigation.
Who should attend?
Any personnel deployed in area where there are conflicts should do this course. This ranges from Child protection advisors, women protection advisors, peace keepers among others.

Understand gender analysis of the legal elements of sexual violence crimes
To investigate relevant needs of female, male and child victims of such crimes
How to plan SGBV investigations, and the importance of SGBV in the broader investigations
Indentifying Red flags signifying the potential existence of SGBV crimes
Understand Interviewing skills, including the peace model for interviews

Investigating avenues for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity
Course Outline
SGBV under International Law, including criminal liability for selected sexual violence such as rape, sexual slavery and forced marriages
A gender analysis of the legal elements of sexual violence crimes
The investigation relevant needs of female, male and child victims of such crimes
Planning SGBV investigations, and the importance of SGBV in the broader investigations
Red flags signifying the potential existence of SGBV crimes
Barriers and stereotypes that may impede SGBV investigations, including concerning the investigation of conflict related SGBV against men, and the idea that only women can investigate SGBV
Why an SGBV focus has to be included at the onset of an investigation as distinct from something “bolted on” at some later stage
Interviewing skills, including the peace model for interviews
Witness management, safety and protection
Victim and witness support measures
Approaches to witness
Witness and victim trauma and psychosocial support
Forensic aids to SGBV investigations
Using evidence from SGBV investigations to support other investigative avenues for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity
METHODOLOGY
The instructor led trainings are delivered using a blended learning approach and comprises of presentations, guided sessions of practical exercise, web based tutorials and group work. Our facilitators are seasoned industry experts with years of experience, working as professional and trainers in these fields.
All facilitation and course materials will be offered in English. The participants should be reasonably proficient in English.
ACCREDITATION
Upon successful completion of this training, participants will be issued with an Indepth Research Institute (IRES) certificate certified by the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA).
TRAINING VENUE
The training will be held at IRES Training Centre. The course fee covers the course tuition, training materials, two break refreshments and lunch.
All participants will additionally cater for their, travel expenses, visa application, insurance, and other personal expenses.
