This hands-on course provides a comprehensive introduction to AutoCAD for new users. Participants will learn the core features of the software, including drawing setup, geometry creation, editing, dimensioning, layers, and plotting. The course emphasizes practical drafting skills for producing professional 2D technical drawings in a variety of fields.

Course Modules

Module 1: Getting Started with AutoCAD

  • Introduction to CAD and AutoCAD workspace

  • Understanding the ribbon, command line, and navigation tools

  • Coordinate systems: absolute, relative, and polar

  • Opening, saving, and organizing drawing files

Hands-On: Create a new drawing and navigate the workspace

Module 2: Drawing Basic Geometry

  • Drawing lines, circles, arcs, rectangles, polygons

  • Using Object Snaps (OSNAP), Ortho, Grid, and Snap modes

  • Direct distance entry and polar tracking

  • Using grips for editing geometry

Hands-On: Create a mechanical or architectural floor sketch using basic shapes

Module 3: Editing and Modifying Tools

  • Modify commands: Move, Copy, Rotate, Scale, Trim, Extend, Offset, Mirror

  • Object selection techniques

  • Use of Undo/Redo and Command recall

  • Creating and managing reusable blocks

Hands-On: Redraw and edit a technical part or layout using Modify tools

Module 4: Layers, Annotation, and Dimensions

  • Creating and managing layers (line types, colors, weights)

  • Adding text (single-line and multi-line)

  • Dimensioning linear, angular, and radial elements

  • Hatching and pattern fills

  • Using annotation scale and text styles

Hands-On: Annotate a floor plan or part drawing with dimensions and notes

Module 5: Layouts, Plotting, and Final Drawing

  • Model space vs paper space

  • Setting up viewports and title blocks

  • Plot styles and plotting to PDF or printer

  • Exporting DWG/DXF files

  • Final drawing review and best practices

Hands-On: Prepare and plot a final drawing sheet with proper layout, annotations, and scaling

Methodology

These instructor-led training sessions are delivered using a blended learning approach and include presentations, guided practical exercises, web-based tutorials, and group work. Our facilitators are seasoned industry experts with years of experience as professionals and trainers in these fields. All facilitation and course materials are offered in English. Participants should be reasonably proficient in the language.

Accreditation

Upon successful completion of this training, participants will be issued an Indepth Research Institute (IRES) certificate certified by the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA).

Training Venue

The training will be held at IRES Training Centre. The course fee covers the course tuition, training materials, two break refreshments, and lunch. All participants will additionally cater to their travel expenses, visa application, insurance, and other personal expenses.
