This short course focuses on the provision of safe water supply and introduction of environmental sanitation under difficult circumstances, especially due to the frequency of displaced populations as a consequence of conflict and the inevitable occurrence of natural disasters.

Differentiate and describe the characteristics of different types of emergency situation and phases,

Phases of emergency (acute, post-acute, transition to development/normality),
Water supply - refugee camp supplies (sources and appropriate/specialist kit), non-camp situation requiring emergency distribution (tankers, bottles), rehabilitation of damaged supplies (mobilisation, communication, information requirements),
Water treatment in above contexts eg. camp scale, household water treatment,
Public health in emergencies: excreta disposal – mainly refugee camp situation (acute versus post-acute phases),
Disaster management: refugee camp logistics, coordination with other sectors eg. shelter, food security, medical supplies and services, electricity,
Public information needs eg. health risks, water disinfection, location of emergency centres, etc,
Safety and security issues – acceptance, deterrence and protection. Personal, organisational and served population security. Ambushing, kidnapping, theft, mines, ongoing conflict, building collapse and natural threats, for both local population and aid workers
Participants should be reasonably proficient in English. Applicants must live up to Indepth Research Services (IRES) admission criteria.
The instructor led trainings are delivered using a blended learning approach and comprises of presentations, guided sessions of practical exercise, web based tutorials and group work. Our facilitators are seasoned industry experts with years of experience, working as professional and trainers in these fields.
All facilitation and course materials will be offered in English. The participants should be reasonably proficient in English.
Upon successful completion of this training, participants will be issued with an Indepth Research Services (IRES) certificate certified by the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA).
The training will be held at IRES Training Centre. The course fee covers the course tuition, training materials, two break refreshments and lunch.
All participants will additionally cater for their, travel expenses, visa application, insurance, and other personal expenses.
