DHIS2 Aggregate Analytics Course


Introduction

Today, DHIS2 is the world's largest Health Information Management System platform, in use by ministries of health in 72 low and middle-income countries. 2.3 billion people live in countries where DHIS2 is used (30% of the world's population).
The aggregate data model is the backbone of DHIS2. The applications used to view data using the aggregate model are standard applications in DHIS2, and can be used to view data of all data models. In other words, they are essential applications to be familiar with when analysing data in DHIS2.  The course will consist of training on all native DHIS2 applications used to view aggregate data, including data visualizations, pivot tables, maps, and dashboards. We will also highlight our DHIS2-to-Power BI connector for those who want more flexibility and power in their data analysis.

Course Objectives

By the end of the training, participants should be able to:

  • Learn how to use native DHIS2 apps to visualize aggregate data using the Data Visualizer (graphs and pivot tables), Maps, and Dashboard applications
  • Learn more about DHIS2 analytics for the aggregate data model in DHIS2 to gain experience viewing data for programmatic decision making, reporting, and analysis.
  • Learn how to use free BAO tool that connects Power BI with DHIS2, to add more flexibility and power to suit more specific data viewing needs and requirements.

  •  Understand the key building blocks of DHIS2 and dimensions required to view aggregate data

Module 3: Data Visualizer, including pivot tables: Presentation and demonstration

  • Understand the functionalities in the Data Visualizer app
  • The types of visualizations that can be created
  • How aggregate data can be viewed, shared and downloaded
  • Practical session on the Data Visualizer application

Module 4: Maps: Presentation and demonstration

  • Understand the functionalities in the Maps app, and how aggregate data can be viewed using this application
  • Practical session on the Maps application

Module 5: Dashboards and interpretations

  • Demonstrate favorites
  • Sharing favorites with user groups
  •  Creating dashboards
  • Interpretations on dashboards
  • Tagging on dashboards
  • Dashboard filtering

Module 6: Power BI & DHIS2

  • Understand how to connect DHIS2 with your Power BI tool to produce more robust data visualizations

The instructor led trainings are delivered using a blended learning approach and comprise of presentations, guided sessions of practical exercise, web-based tutorials and group work. Our facilitators are seasoned industry experts with years of experience, working as professional and trainers in these fields. All facilitation and course materials will be offered in English. The participants should be reasonably proficient in English.
Upon successful completion of this training, participants will be issued with an Indepth Research Institute (IRES) certificate certified by the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA).
